Adventures await in the city! Well adventures and massive amounts of traffic.

My boyfriend and I love exploring new terrain together and while I have been traveling to DC for as long as I could remember this was our first time exploring the city together.
During our visit we went to the African American History Museum, Smithsonian Natural History Museum, Washington Monument, Sculpture Garden, and National Harbor in Oxon Hill, MD.

Pro tip : to maximize your visit, it would be worth renting a bike or scooter as many are available at different locations near the National Mall. Or take an Uber from one end of the monuments to the other. We walked and 8 miles, 17k steps later I would certainly recommend a faster mode of transportation to get the most out of your trip.
Some of my favorite exhibits were the media and arts sections of the African American Museum, crystal and gems in the Natural History museum, and the slavery exhibits which were eye opening and informative. Although I had been in DC plenty of times, visiting this museum was a first. As many natives know, the first few years it was open it was so difficult finding tickets even though the museum was and is free, it was in high demand.

It was so cool to see memorabilia from family legacies of excellence in black history. Learning about not only my family’s history but black excellence was eye opening. Seeing family member’s in a museum was a first but made me immensely proud of the legacy that they left behind.
I must say this museum had a lot of information, exhibits, and it almost seemed like we could have spent all day reading and interacting within the museum. We went to all 4 levels but definitely will be returning to learn more. There just wasn’t enough time in the day to visit all that we wanted to. (Another reason why the bikes are a must!)
We did eat good in DC!
We are both foodies and DC is one of the best areas to find unique and delicious food. For lunch we stopped at the sculpture garden’s Garden cafe. For my boyfriend, a caprese toasted sandwich & for me a toasted turkey sandwich with a cranberry sauce.
Dinner at The Walrus Oyster and Ale House at the National Harbor followed by Ben and Jerry’s. This was our first experience with raw oysters and it certainly lived up to the hype. They were delicious. We walked around and visited a few shops before grabbing ice cream at the Ben and Jerry’s near the waterfront.
Next visit we have already planned to visit the Air & Space Museum (book tickets ahead of time), Lincoln and Jefferson Memorial, Arlington National Cemetery, Martin Luther King Jr Memorial, and many others.
